Sub-24, 2017

It was wet. It was cold. It was Finland in April.

We met in the Shell Service Station at 17:30 as the rain began to fall. British, French and Ukrainian riders took the asphalt cycle paths towards Nuuksio. We turned left to follow the road on the south side of Nuuksio’s Pitkäjärvi. The followed the road to its end through rain, sun and cloud, past buses and newly returned birds all the way to the end of the road. We turned off the asphalt onto gravel and ice and continued much more slowly to our campsite at Kolmoislampi. We made our own shelter and managed without a fire as the snow began to fall. After a cold night, hot tea and porridge warmed us up ready for a sunny ride back to Bemböle and beyond.

Our return ride from Bemböle was around 35 kilometres and our average speed was under 20 kph. With no technical issues, we only had the weather to complain about and that was soon forgotten on our bright morning ride home.

Next month, more of the same on May 5th. See you then.
